STILL NOT SURE if a humidex system is right for you?

Frequently Asked Questions

Moisture Pros is here to help. This comprehensive FAQ addresses the most common questions about Humidex systems and installation, providing you with the information you need to make informed decisions about basement moisture and mold control solutions.

What is a Humidex System?

A Humidex system is a patented moisture control and ventilation system that works by expelling humid, contaminated air from your basement or crawlspace and replacing it with warmer, drier air from the upper levels of your home. Unlike traditional dehumidifiers, Humidex systems don't collect water in buckets - they mechanically ventilate the space by drawing moist air through bottom vents and expelling it outside through a 6-inch duct.

How Does a Humidex System Work?

The system operates in three key steps:

1.  Expel: Draws in stagnant, damp, contaminated air from the basement floor level with powerful yet quiet ventilation fans

2. Replenish: Replaces expelled air with warmer, drier, fresher air from upper levels of the home

3. Ventilate: Automatically controls airflow using an adjustable humidistat that regulates fan speed based on humidity levels

What Are the Benefits of Installing a Humidex System?

Energy Efficiency: Uses only 38 watts of electricity, costing approximately $3 per month to operate compared to $40-70 monthly for traditional dehumidifiers.

Maintenance-Free Operation: No filters to clean or replace, and no water buckets to empty.

Comprehensive Air Quality: Provides ventilation for the entire basement, crawlspace, and upper levels while removing contaminants, pollutants, mold spores, insects and radon.

Larger Coverage Area: One unit can effectively control moisture for entire basements and crawlspaces, whereas dehumidifiers have limited range.

How Long Does Installation Take?

Most Humidex installations can be completed in half a day to one full day. The exact timeframe depends on factors such as basement accessibility, wall material (wood, brick, concrete, or cinderblock), and ductwork requirements.

How Much Does Humidex Installation Cost?

Professional installation can vary based on local labor rates and installation complexity. Humidex pays for itself and is is significantly more cost-effective long-term compared to traditional dehumidifiers along with lower operating and maintenance cost along with reduced utility bills.

How Much Maintenance Does a Humidex System Require?

Humidex systems are designed to be maintenance-free. The only recommended maintenance is periodic cleaning of the intake vents at the bottom of the unit. There are no filters to replace or water containers to empty.

What Warranty Does Humidex Offer?

Humidex systems come with a 5-year limited warranty. Units can be registered online or by using the provided warranty card to validate coverage. We do this for you.

Can Humidex Help With Radon Reduction?

Yes, Humidex systems help remove radon along with other air pollutants. However, for homes with significantly elevated radon levels, a dedicated radon mitigation system may be more appropriate. The ventilation provided by Humidex can complement radon reduction efforts by improving overall air exchange.

How Soon Will I See Results?

Most homeowners notice improvements within 48 hours. The timeline varies depending on the existing moisture saturation in your home's structure. In extreme conditions with heavy moisture saturation, allow more time for the system to effectively dry out the basement.

Will Installing Humidex Increase My Heating/Utility Costs?

No! Over time, the system actually helps reduce heating and air conditioning costs by better distributing conditioned air throughout the home and...it is less expensive to heat or cool dry air in your home.

What Should I Expect During Summer Installation?

If installed during late spring or summer, you may experience temporary condensation as warm, humid air from upstairs meets cold basement surfaces. This is normal and will improve as the system raises the basement temperature over time. Temporarily reducing the fan speed to medium and ensuring AC vents to the basement are closed can help during the initial operating period.

Do I Need Special Preparation Before Installation?

Clear the Installation Area: Ensure the installation area and path to the outside wall are accessible.

Seal Other Openings: Check for and seal any openings around windows, doors, vents, or other places where outside humid air could enter. We will check this during our inspection.

Close AC Vents: Ensure all air conditioning ducts to the basement are sealed and closed.

Sump Pump Coverage: Make sure sump pump covers are in pace and properly sealed.

Can Humidex Work In All Types Of Homes?

Humidex systems work best in homes with basements or crawlspaces where there's access to upper-level air for replenishment. The system requires an open pathway for air to flow from upstairs, either through an open stairwell or ventilation grilles.

What If My Basement Has Multiple Rooms?

For basements with walls or partitions that limit airflow, install grilles (10" x 4") in doors, closets or walls to ensure air circulation to all areas. Otherwise, interior doors must remain open for optimal system performance.
